Family Matters (part 2)

A few days after Rose met my family (as seen in part 1), I went to visit her family.
As Rose had related to me, her family was somewhat different from mine, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I was hopeful that I would make a good impression on them.  Before we got to her house, she stopped at the repair shop near her house to pay a bill for some repairs she'd had done earlier that week.  Incidentally, this was also the garage where her dad worked.  This led to an almost-awkward moment when she realized he was standing in the office, and she quickly introduced me.  We had a quick handshake, and then he went back to work.
After some grocery shopping, we arrived at her house, I was introduced to her mother, and her adopted sister.  We ended up playing several board games, a few of which I ended up winning without really trying.  Rose also ended up winning a game of Scrabble between me, her, and her mother.  She took a photo of the final score, because it was apparently a very rare event.  The constant accompaniment for these games was Disney music, which they all sang along with.  Being a guy, and not much of a singer, I kept quiet and smiled at their enjoyment of it.  After that, Rose cooked up a delicious lasagna, which I helped with somewhat.  I felt slightly out of my element, not really having anything useful to do, but I made the best of it, and observed her interactions with her family, beginning to understand how they fit together.
I noticed that they were not as 'together' as my family.  There is something of an individualistic streak in Rose's family, and this means that they each kind of do their own thing, rather than doing things as a family so much.  I don't see this as a bad thing, but I noticed how it was different from how my family behaves.  What really stood out for me more was how many similarities there were between our families.  For instance, her sister is more like my brother than I thought possible, and I have a feeling they would get along very well together.
After dinner, Rose and I went downstairs to her apartment area, where we spent the evening watching Doctor Who and cuddling on the couch.  Her cat Cutie-pie also accompanied us in the cuddling, which was fine with me.  I hadn't really had much contact with cats since my grandmother's cats passed on some years ago, so it was nice to have an animal around to pet and occasionally talk to in a voice usually reserved for babies.  (I hope my masculinity remains intact after admitting that)
The weather was unpredictable, so driving me home that night was a risky idea at best, so we decided that I would stay over for the night, which I was already prepared for.  Rose and I talked and cuddled long into the night.  Eventually, we went off to our separate beds, but we still had a very satisfying sleep.  In the morning, she made waffles from scratch for breakfast, which were excellent.  Rose once joked with me that her challenge was to make me fat.  Given enough time with her, I think her mission might succeed!
Later, Rose told me that I made a good impression on them, which took off some of the worries I'd had about things.  I enjoyed spending time with her family, and I think they enjoyed my company as well, so I'm looking forward to our next meeting, whenever that may be.  Also, Cutie-pie already misses me, so I think some more Doctor Who cuddle time is in order in the near future.
