Take your protein pills, and put your helmet on

I wish I had a no-fail way of telling my bad ideas from the brilliant ones.  I've been toying with an idea for the past few days, and even now, I still am unsure which category it belongs to.  So, since we're all friends here, I've decided to outline my idea and see what you all think.  I have my own suspicions, but I will wait patiently for your assessment.
This idea involves creating a new online dating profile.  The difference is, that this profile would not be me, per se.  I think of it as a sort of experiment in improvisation.  I've come up with a character to use for this profile.  In honour of David Bowie, we'll call this character Major Tom.  Major Tom's story is a bit far out, and high-concept, but that's part of my plan, as will be explained shortly.
Tom was shot into space by his parents at age sixteen, instructed to explore and search for new lifeforms and things of that nature.  Being in space, and not having much true life experience, Tom communicates with people on Earth through his space capsule's computer.  Understandably, Tom is lonely, and because of growing up in space, he is emotionally distant.  He wants to change that, and become more like a typical person before his return to Earth, which will be happening soon.
My master plan for all of this is that Major Tom would direct any girls interested in him to his long time contact on Earth (ie, me), who happens to be very similar to him.  Yes, this is silly and needlessly complicated, but the way I look at it, anyone who would message me/Major Tom would already be smart enough to acknowledge that the entire thing was patently ridiculous, and thus they would play along.  [longest sentence ever]  My only real concern about this is that someone might feel as if they were lied to, and that's something I don't want to do, even if I'm not interested.  I have a feeling that this could be tricky, but I'm very curious as to what sort of women this might attract, if any.  Also, it could be a fun way to mess with a certain someone who may need to be reminded of the damage she caused.
So, there's my idea.  Should I jump in my rocket, or stay on this planet for now?

  1. Interesting concept, and it would be fun to see what type of girls you would attract (probably ones with a sense of humor, or a slight degree of geekiness, or both - no matter what, you win!), but also unnecessarily complicated. As a guy who used to put up fronts all the time, I feel as though women are most attracted when they just see you for you. No bells, no whistles, no rocketships. Just honesty.

  2. Btw - can I just follow up to this post and tell you that I finally listened to Major Tom a few weeks ago? Until that moment I had never heard it, or many other Bowie songs. And now I understand the meaning of this entry so much more.
