10K Day

Hello, dear readers.  A while back, I read about the practice of some twentysomethings celebrating what's commonly known as 10K Day (it's a little like a birthday, but a bit different), and today is that day for me.  As of this moment, I have been on this planet for ten thousand days.  It's a touch startling to think about it, really.  Generally speaking, those who celebrate their 10K Day do something big and elaborate.  Something that they haven't done before, like skydiving in the nude, perhaps.  I never figured out what I was going to do today, because I thought I had more time to consider it.  I suppose this simple blog post will have to suffice.
In any case, I've seen quite a lot in my time here, and I hope to see much more that life has to offer.  I've been in and out of love.  I've made new friends, and lost old ones.  I've seen things and been places that some others haven't.  Sometimes I feel like I should have done more in my youth, but that time has passed, so I suppose I shouldn't fret about it.  I'm happy with how things have gone so far.  It might not be perfect, but this life really isn't supposed to be perfect, so that's okay.

On a related note, this is also a big day for Star Wars fans around the world.  For those of you who don't know, May 4 is considered by fans to be 'Star Wars Day'.  (May the 4th be with you!)  Interestingly enough, I have something of a personal connection to Star Wars:  my parents went to see it on their first date.  So, perhaps I will do something Star Wars-related to celebrate my 10K Day.  In the meantime, please enjoy this:

  2. Happy 10k Day, Dave! This makes me curious to find out when my own 10K Day will be, so I will definitely follow that link in your comment and find out.

Skydiving in the nude sounds painful. I wouldn't recommend it, for obvious reasons. Us men have much to lose. Anyway, life isn't perfect but you're right...it's not supposed to be. I wouldn't want a perfect life, because then that's the point of existing? Imperfection breeds goals, and goals give purpose.

Enjoy your day, sir. May the 10k be with you.

  4. Here's one graphic reason you shouldn't skydive naked, if you're a guy: http://youtu.be/Eo-lHbXNwwU

    1. It's possible. I know it's generally supposed to happen sometime in your late 20s, but I figured the date would show anyway. A quick google search should find you one that works.
